Average CU × active hours × computes
The formula
CU-hours = average CU size × active hours × compute count. For an autoscaling compute, the average size during active time matters more than its maximum configured size.
Scale to zero matters
Neon documents that an idle compute can suspend under its scale-to-zero configuration. Suspended time does not consume compute usage, so calendar hours and active compute hours may differ substantially.
What this does not calculate
The tool does not know autoscaling history, branch activity, read replicas, plan pricing, credits, taxes, or billing corrections. Use Neon's usage and billing pages as the source of truth.
How to choose an average CU
Use observed compute history when available. If only minimum and maximum bounds are known, do not assume their midpoint reflects workload; try a range of plausible averages instead.
